45. R. Crumb Sketchbook Volume 2 (Fantagraphics)

Mid 1965 - early 1966

Similar to the previous volume, yet different. Looks like the LSD is kicking in. Crumb Phase 2 is disappearing and the thin-line style is on the rise. Cute old-old-school Crumb girls and many glimpses of the Crumb-that's-to-come and his  well-known style(s). Really excellent book.

The first volume is really good, but in this one there are two or three pages that are so glorious and so beautiful, they will blow your mind.

This volume contains Where It's At, which is also inexplicably contained in the Complete Crumb Comics Vol. 4. Why did Fantagraphics do that?

At the moment of this writing, the Fantagraphics website says a softcover reprint of this volume is available to order, and for an extra $ 30 US "with Signed Bookplate Option".
